October FOTM Newsletter from the President

Paulette Miller, President, FOTM

Hello Friends,

First off, we hope you like the new look of our Friends of Theater at Mason Newsletter. We think it is very attractive, interactive, and in line with other Mason communications. Our thanks go to Emily Rusch of the Development Staff for doing all the editing and coordinating with the University, and to board member Doris Bloch for being what she calls our “official nudge,” getting us all to get our articles written and submitted on time. Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see included in the newsletter that we may be missing. This is our primary way of reaching all of you and it is important that we meet your needs.

The fall semester has gotten off to a running start. Looking back to the adrenaline rush of School of Theater Convocation on August 27 it is amazing to think of all that has happened since then. Auditions for the fall productions started the very next day. Callbacks, then cast selections for The Originals!, Rags, and Twelfth Night were followed by the production of The Originals! on September 13 and 14. Word is if you waited too long to buy a ticket you were out of luck, because Saturday sold out! The students have been immersed in theater practically from the moment they stepped on campus. The first read for Rags, their much anticipated musical production, was on September 16, and rehearsals are underway. Hopefully, by the time you receive this newsletter you will have seen the Theater Student Showcases at ARTS by George! and now be really motivated to see more of what is ahead.

There are many ways you can support Theater at Mason. Attending as many student productions as possible is the easiest because 1) they are conveniently located, 2) they are so inexpensive and best of all 3) they are so good. Next, you can spread the word to your friends and neighbors; invite them along next time you attend a production. You can take us up on our offer to join the Board as an Associate Member and pitch in on special projects. And of course you can support us financially with a gift to our scholarship fund.

Please contact me any time with any questions or ideas for how we all can make theater at Mason and the Friends better and better.

Sincerely,

Paulette Miller, President
